Large paintings made with earth pigments she grinds herself, from soil gathered on walks between Lagos and the Thames estuary.

Ines Okafor grinds her own pigments from soil, brick dust and river clay, and paints with them on unprimed linen that she lays on the studio floor. The colours are never quite the same twice, because the ground never is.

She trained at the Slade and spent six years restoring murals before returning to her own work. Her paintings are held in the collections of the Arts Council and the Whitworth, and she is represented by Gesso Art.
