Long, patient photographs of tidal flats and estuaries, taken at the hour when the water cannot decide.

Mariko Hale photographs estuaries on a large-format camera, often waiting several tides for a single frame. The pictures are quiet and grey and take a while to arrive, which is the point.

She studied at Glasgow School of Art and has shown at Street Level Photoworks and the Photographers’ Gallery. What the Tide Leaves is her first exhibition with Gesso Art.
